Gear-train sketch with pen note and red-chalk figures
A drawn wheelwork above scattered calculations
The upper part of the recto carries a drawn wheelwork (the block titled 'Ruotismi', gear-trains): paired discs set on vertical axles that mesh together, with a small weight hung on a cord at the right. Below, in red chalk, run several loose columns of figures, and a pen line begins 'Every contact is…'. Text and drawing are faint, and the note breaks off before its thought is completed.

Drawn gear-train (ruotismi)
At the top of the sheet is a small mechanism of toothed wheels or discs mounted on vertical axles so that they engage one another. A cord runs off to the right, ending in a hanging weight. The block that names this study is headed simply 'Gear-trains'.
Columns of red-chalk figures
The middle of the leaf is filled with loose numerical jottings in red chalk, arranged in short columns and rows. They appear to be working figures rather than continuous prose, set down apart from the mechanical sketch above.
Pen note: 'Every contact is…'
A single line in pen begins 'Every contact is', then stops. It reads as the opening of a general observation, perhaps on how surfaces meet, left unfinished on the page.
