Folio 83v demonstrates a device for producing thin laths, or boards for sword scabbards, out of green or damp timber, shown in a large perspective drawing of the tool. Beneath it a separate detail draws the plane iron (ferro di pialla), and a further caption explains how the blade of the little plane is seated. The captions name the plane iron and describe the set of its blade.
