Winding Wheel, Roller Between Pulleys and the Carmine Device
How many turns a wheel gives as its counterweight unwinds; a roller running between pulleys; the mechanism of the Carmine
At the top a large wheel on a screw-threaded axle carries a hanging counterweight, and Leonardo asks how many turns the wheel would make once the counterweight had unwound all its cord, and in what proportion the cord that winds up in the contrary direction on the beam stands to the cord first unwound. Below, a roller is drawn running between two pulley-mounted rails, and at the foot a geared mechanism is labeled the device of the Carmine. A further caption accompanying the middle roller drawing is present on the sheet but was not included in the transcription.

Wheel and screw-axle driven by a counterweight
The top figure shows a wheel on a threaded axle with a weight hung from its cord. Leonardo asks how many turns the wheel would make once the counterweight had unwound all its cord, and what proportion the cord winding up in the contrary direction on the beam bears to the cord first unwound.
The device of the Carmine
A caption beneath the lower figure names it as the manner in which the device of the Carmine is arranged, keyed to the geared mechanism drawn at the foot of the sheet.
Roller running between two pulleys
The middle of the sheet shows a long roller suspended between two pulley-mounted rails with cords over the wheels. A caption written beside this figure is present on the page but not among the transcribed blocks and so is not rendered here.
