Reflex Motion, the Bounce, and the Angles of Percussion
A body strikes hardest at mid-course; a rebounding body turns, rasps, and damages more

Leonardo holds that a violently moving thing has its greatest speed and does most damage at the middle of its straight course, that curved motion is the weakest the moving powers can make, and that reflex motion (the bounce) is a continual revolution of the moved body. He adds that an object struck near the birth of the reflex motion is more damaged, because the turning body rasps and strikes, that reflex motion is strongest at more acute angles, and that things of equal quality damage each other equally, while an object struck at more equal angles is the more damaged.

Greatest speed and damage at the middle of the course
The more a violently moving thing is in the middle of its straight course, the more speed its motion has and the more it damages its object. Curved motion is the weakest that the moving powers can make.
Reflex motion is a continual revolution
The reflex motion, or bounce, is a continual revolution of the moved body. An object struck near the birth of the reflex motion is more damaged than by the first percussion, because the body goes turning and rasps and strikes, whereas the first only intends to enter the place struck.
Equal qualities and equal angles: equal damage
If the struck thing is of equal quality to that which strikes, their damages are equal. That object which is struck at more equal angles is the more damaged.
