Rotary hauling machine that pulls loads of any shape

The upper drawing is a circular capstan-like drum studded with radial threaded rods and wound with a rope at its base; the lower is a frontal plan of a wheel whose many radial arms end in eyes arranged in two concentric rings on a trestle. The notes say this pulling device works for a load of any figure — square, triangular or round — and that the lower figure is the foundation of the upper. The wheels toward the center are movable and those toward the outer circle are fixed, so that turning the windlass (argano) draws the inner wheels toward the outer ones and hauls in whatever is attached.
