Boat-and-sail diagrams for heading north-west or west while making east (folio 124v)
Folio 124v continues the study of sailing, with two overhead diagrams of a boat and its sail set across crossing wind axes. The notes name the points of sail relative to the wind: taking the north-west wind (maestro) while wishing to travel east, sailing with a quartering wind, and 'going in the line of the keel' (a straight course). A further caption pairs taking the west wind (ponente) with making toward the east. The letters and word 'maestro' identify wind direction within the figures.

Sailing in the line of the keel
A second case is named 'andare in fil di rota', going in the line of the keel, i.e. a straight course, and is paired with taking the west wind (ponente) while making toward the east. The word 'maestro' labels the wind within the figure.
