A red-chalk (sanguine) survey traces the winding course of the Arno past a string of named towns and weirs. Labels along the upper reach read La Lastra, Signa, Ponte a Signa and a Pescaia (weir), while the central stretch names the Ombrone, the Golfolina gorge, Brucianese, Pini, Monisterio, Pescaia Fornaci, Capraia and Montelupo. A faint red-chalk sketch of a framework or device stands at the lower right of the sheet. The codex is noted as including Leonardo's survey of the Arno valley.

Upper Arno: La Lastra, Signa and the weir
Labels along the upper course of the river name La Lastra, Signa, Ponte a Signa (Pont'a Signa) and a Pescaia, or weir. They mark settlements strung along the drawn river bend as it leaves the Florentine plain.
Downstream reach: Golfolina gorge to Montelupo
The central portion of the map labels the Ombrone tributary, the Golfolina gorge, Brucianese, Pini, Monisterio (a monastery), Pescaia Fornaci, Capraia and Montelupo. These place-names track the Arno westward through its narrows.
