The centre of the sheet develops a mechanism in which a worm-screw, through a toothed wheel, rotates a forked element, with several exploded details of the same device around it. A boxed drawing at the upper right is labelled as a design for a chest or box, and a small group at the upper left is captioned as a way of making a ditch, with men cutting stepped terraces. A note beside one detail explains that the socket-piece is made in two parts.

Worm-screw driving a toothed wheel and fork
The main assembly shows a worm-screw meshing with a toothed wheel that in turn rotates a forked member, cross-referenced to the mechanism on the recto. Surrounding sketches break the same device down into its shafts, hubs and bearing supports.
The socket made in two pieces
A detail marked a is captioned to explain that this female socket is made of two pieces and is the same one shown above. The note ties the exploded part back to its place in the assembled gear.
A way of making a ditch
A small group at the upper left is captioned as a method of making a ditch, with figures cutting the ground into stepped terraces. The sketch treats the excavation as a staged earth-moving operation.
Design for a box
A boxed drawing at the upper right is captioned simply as a design for a chest or casket. It is shown in perspective as an open rectangular container.
