How river water carries and deposits sand and silt
Where the current slows or meets thickets it drops finer silt and heaps of sand

Slower water lays down finer silt
Where the water has less motion, the note states, the surface of its bed will be of finer silt or sand; and things lighter than sand come to rest toward the low part of the river beneath the start of the wave's decline.
Eddies among the thickets deposit sand
Where the course of turbid water enters among the low branches of the thickets, the many revolutions of the eddies unload much sand or silt, forming the heaps of sand on the riverbed named in the heading.
