Pen and wash composition of the Madonna-and-Child type
A young woman is shown in three-quarter view, her head inclined and her gaze lowered, seated beside a plump nude infant who sits upright and turns his face up and to the side. Soft pen and wash model her coiffure and drapery and the rounded forms of the child, in a group of the familiar Madonna-and-Child type. The crowned Uffizi collector's stamp is impressed at upper right. No text accompanies the drawing.

Head and drapery of the young woman
The woman's head is turned in three-quarter profile and bent downward, her hair gathered softly at the back. Loose folds of drapery fall across her breast and lap, lightly modelled in wash. Faint pentimenti around the contour show the pose being sought.
The seated nude infant
At right a chubby nude child sits upright, its rounded belly, folded legs and small feet given careful attention. The head tilts back and to the side, the face lifted as if toward the woman.
