Faint studies of gears, wheels and a screw mechanism

The verso carries a scatter of very faint pen-and-ink sketches of mechanical parts across a reddish photographic reproduction. Recognisable among the pale lines are toothed wheels, small pulleys, open box-like frames drawn in perspective, and, near the centre, a vertical axle fitted with a helical screw or worm that engages a geared wheel. Lever arms and crank-like fittings appear amid lighter offset and show-through lines. Because the marks are so faint, further passages that may include writing cannot be ruled out, but none is transcribed here.

Central screw-and-wheel mechanism
At the centre of the sheet a vertical shaft carries a helical screw or worm that meshes with a toothed wheel. The arrangement resembles a worm-and-gear drive or a rotating spit mechanism, and it is the most firmly inked passage on an otherwise pale page.
Box frames, wheels and levers
Scattered around the page are open box-like frames drawn in perspective, several small wheels or pulleys, and straight lever or bar elements. They read as isolated studies of individual machine components rather than a single assembled device.
