Character studies of aged men, one smiling broadly
This plate gathers four grotesque head studies numbered 57 to 60. They include a man in a soft beret drawn as a bust, a gaunt old man with a very large nose and sunken cheeks, a faint sharp-nosed profile, and a bald man smiling broadly with a fleshy face. No autograph text is present, and the corner numbers are later cataloguing marks.

Man in a soft beret, bust (no. 57)
A man wearing a soft draped beret faces right in profile and is drawn as a bust with rounded shoulders. His face is wrinkled and the mouth set firmly.
Gaunt old man (no. 58)
A gaunt, bald old man faces right in profile with a very large nose, sunken cheeks and a lined throat. The bony shoulders and chest are lightly outlined.
Faint sharp-nosed profile (no. 59)
A lightly drawn head faces right in profile, dominated by a sharply projecting nose and heavy brow. Little of the body is indicated.
Smiling bald man, bust (no. 60)
A bald man faces left in profile with a broad smile creasing his fleshy cheeks. He is drawn as a bust with a loose garment over the shoulders.
