Head of an Elderly Woman, Eyes Lowered
Red chalk study of an aged female face in three-quarter view
A red chalk study of the head of an older woman turned in three-quarter view toward her left, with lowered eyes and a lined, careworn face. The hair is drawn back in waves from the brow and the modelling concentrates on the soft, sagging flesh of cheeks, jaw and neck. The shoulders and any covering are barely indicated, leaving the head as the finished focus. An inventory number appears at upper right and a collector's stamp at the lower edge.

Aged female head in three-quarter view
The sheet is given over to the head of an elderly woman, seen from slightly above and turned to her left. Heavy hatching models the wrinkled brow, hollow cheeks and heavy lower face, while the eyes are cast down; the hair is waved back from the forehead.
