A Sacred Group with the Virgin, Saints and Two Infants
Pen-and-wash devotional scene before a hilly landscape with crosses
A pen and brown-wash study of a devotional group. A veiled woman stands or kneels at the center with her hands crossed on her breast, flanked by attendant figures including a mitred bishop and a kneeling youth at left and two bearded men at right; two nude infants play together in the foreground. Behind them a hillside rises with crosses and ruined structures suggesting a Calvary or ruin. An old number is inscribed at the lower edge and a collection mark appears at lower right; the bundle supplies no transcription.

Central veiled woman
A woman in a long veil and mantle stands at the middle of the group with hands crossed over her breast, her face turned down and slightly to one side. She is the tallest and most finished figure.
Bishop and kneeling attendants
At left a figure wearing a bishop's mitre bends forward with clasped hands, while a young man kneels before him. At right two further bearded men lean in toward the center.
Two infants in the foreground
Two naked children lie and tumble together on the ground at the feet of the standing figures, forming a lively knot at the base of the composition.
Hillside with crosses and ruins
Behind the figures a hill rises, crowned with upright crosses and broken architectural forms sketched in light wash. It sets the group within an open landscape.
