Clock gear-trains, an escapement and a colour recipe
Wheel trains labelled first to fourth mobile, a one-tooth release, plus painting notes and a multiplication
The right half develops clockwork gear-trains whose wheels are numbered from first to fourth mobile, one figure carrying a fan governor and the counts pinion 6, wheel 36, teeth 39. At the centre a release is worked out in which a one-tooth wheel, driven by the timepiece, trips a fully toothed wheel once per turn, while other figures show a wheel that turns in one hour and stop-teeth by which twenty-four hours give exactly three revolutions. The lower margin holds a painter's recipe for grinding colours in glue and layering black, red and lake, and a small multiplication of 15 by 15 giving 225 sits at the left.

Gear-train numbered first to fourth mobile
The wheels of the train are labelled fourth mobile, third mobile, second mobile and prime mobile, and an analogous figure adds a fan made in the manner of a clock with a branch, driven from the prime mobile through a pinion 6, wheel 36 and teeth 39.
One-tooth wheel tripping a toothed release
At the centre Leonardo explains that when the release trips it must carry the cause of its releasing, a wheel full of teeth, and that this wheel is moved by a wheel bearing only a single tooth which, in one whole turn driven by the timepiece, touches one tooth of the releasing wheel.
Counterweight support for greater leverage
A figure marked with a weight carries a candlestick-like support set at the thicker part for greater leverage, working by contrary; nearby a wheel is noted as turning in one hour and a set of stop-teeth as giving exactly three turns for the twenty-four hours.
Recipe for grinding and layering colours
The lower margin gives a painter's method: grind the colours with glue and never refresh them except with water; shade with black and heighten with red, lay lake over it without tempera, and then shade with gum.
Multiplication of 15 by 15
At the lower left a worked multiplication sets 15 against 15, giving the partial products 75 and 15 and the total 225.
