A method for weighing falling water rated at 2200 pounds, among gear and paddle-wheel sketches
The upper drawing sets out a method for weighing a fall of water, annotated '2200 pounds', with a tall columnar apparatus at the left. Around and below it are sketches of paddle wheels, geared devices and spring fittings. Two later annotations in the right-hand corners, not by Leonardo, add the fragment 'el' and a column of numbers; the Ambrosiana index links these figures to a selection from the registers of Milan Cathedral.

A method for weighing a fall of water
The upper drawing is captioned as a way to weigh a fall of water, with the figure '2200 pounds'. A tall column and a scoop-and-frame apparatus set out how the weight or force of the falling water is to be measured.
Paddle wheels and geared fittings
Below the water study are drawn paddle wheels, toothed wheels and spring-loaded fittings, sketched without captions. They accompany the apparatus for measuring the moving water.

Two additions in the right-hand corners are in a later hand: the fragment 'el' at upper right and a column of figures (10, 100, 8, 71, 8, 9) at lower right. The Ambrosiana index records these as a selection from the registers of Milan Cathedral.
