The kinds of motion and composed motions
Leonardo distinguishes two kinds of motion: one that stays always joined to its mover, and others that soon detach and continue separated from it. He then corrects himself, noting that every driving mover follows the moved thing for a while after separation, and lists 'composed' motions as pairings of straight and curved paths.
Carts and oxen when the pulley is moved
A caption at the left reads 'Of carts and oxen, when the pulley is moved.' It accompanies the drawn winch-and-pulley assembly with inclined rods and gearing at the centre of the strip.
Ornamental candelabrum column
At the far left is a carefully finished pen drawing of a decorative candelabrum or column, topped by a fan-shaped shell ornament and incorporating a small grotesque figure at its base. It is drawn but not transcribed in the bundle.
A lettered semicircle
At the right of the strip is a semicircle labelled with the letters a, b and c, drawn as a geometric figure alongside the framed devices.
