Battery of mortars firing exploding shells
Bombs arcing over a target and bursting into clouds of radiating fragments
On the right a group of mortars mounted on low, adjustable carriages is drawn firing upward in billowing smoke. Their spherical bombs rise in a broad arc across the sheet and, at left and centre, rain down and burst into dense clusters of fragments radiating in every direction over the target ground. The sheet bears the drawing alone and, as noted, carries no accompanying writing.

Battery of mortars on adjustable mounts
At the right several stub-barrelled mortars are set on tilting carriages fitted with toothed arcs that allow the elevation to be changed. They are shown discharging together amid clouds of smoke.
Shells bursting into radiating fragments
The spherical projectiles trace a wide arc across the page and, at left and centre, explode into tightly packed bursts of fragments flying outward in every direction onto the target zone.
