Toothed drums, racks and cylindrical barrels with a note of dimensions and a bridge
A crowded sheet of mechanical and artillery studies in pen. Large toothed drums mesh with straight and curved racks at the left and top, while several long cylindrical bodies read as gun-barrels and banded tubes. A dimensioned note gives the length and thickness of a long member and asks the reader to work it out, and a label at the foot reads 'bridge'. Toothed drums meshing with racks
At the left and top, heavy cylindrical drums set with teeth engage straight and curved toothed bars (racks). The arrangement studies how rotary motion is converted to linear travel. Several versions are drawn one above another.
Cylindrical barrels and banded tubes
Long cylindrical bodies, some reinforced with bands and mounted horizontally, run across the middle of the sheet. Scholarly tags identify bombards and mortars among the devices, consistent with these gun-barrel forms. One barrel is drawn open at the muzzle.
Dimensions of a long member
A note read from right to left above the second drawing gives measurements: sixteen braccia long and half a braccio thick, with a further thickness of one sixth, closing with 'tell me'. It fixes the proportions of a long beam or barrel and invites a calculation.
Bridge label
A single word at the foot of the sheet reads 'bridge', labelling a structure drawn among the machinery below. It links the mechanical studies to a work of building. The nearby forms are lightly sketched.
Water-driven mill machinery
The lower mechanisms, with their geared drums and shafts, are tied by the sheet's scholarly tags to a Pavia-style mill (molin pavese) and to falling water as its motive power. A slender tripod frame with an upright stands at the lower right. The passage reads as a mill drive rather than a weapon.
