Weight-loaded balance arms and pulleys, a lettered gear-train, and two rules of proportion
The right half of the sheet is filled with statics diagrams: pulleys carrying weights (12 and 10) and straight and curved balance-arms loaded with weights (1, 4, 2 and 112, 4, 4) shown in equilibrium. At the upper left a large wheel studded with weights on radiating arms is drawn, together with a lettered gear-train (a...q), a driving weight marked Peso, and numbers (32, 1, 8; 42, 21) recording diameters or tooth-counts. Two written propositions state rules of proportion about removing parts from the extremes of a proportion. Balance arms in equilibrium with weights 1, 4, 2
Straight balance-arms are drawn carrying suspended weights, marked 1, 4 and 2, arranged in equilibrium about their fulcrum. Lower down, curved and unequal arms carry the weights 112, 4 and 4. The diagrams test how weight and arm-length balance one another.
Pulleys carrying weights 12 and 10
Near the fold at the top right a pulley carries a weight marked 12. Lower on the sheet another pulley carries a weight marked 10. They study the load supported through a pulley.
Two rules on the extremes of a proportion
Two propositions on proportion are written out. First: if from the extremes of a proportion one removes parts which, joined together, are in the proportion of the whole, the remainder stays in the same proportion. Second: if half of each extreme is removed, the remainder likewise stays in the same proportion.
Lettered gear-train with a driving weight
A lettered gear-train runs a b c d e f g h – i k L m n o p q, with a driving weight labelled Peso below the wheels. Figures beside it (32, 1, 8; 42, 21) record diameters or tooth-counts, and a fragmentary note begins 'If the diameter of a ...'.
Large wheel studded with weights on radiating arms
At the upper left a large circle is drawn with many spokes radiating from its centre, each carrying a small weighted ball or ring near the rim. It appears to study the distribution of weights around a wheel. No caption for it is transcribed.
