Leonardo distinguishes the two motions of a wave (a principal motion in the middle of its width and thickness, and an oblique lateral one), and describes how colliding currents leap up, gain weight, strike and hollow the bed. Definitions of river floods and ebbs entering the sea state that water moving in one direction is shallower where swifter and deeper where slower, and that circular-moving water is slower the farther it is from the centre. Interspersed geometry treats the angle of contingency as divisible to infinity, with an indivisible point as the common terminus of infinite angles.

The two motions of a wave
Waves have two motions: the principal one lies in the middle of the width and thickness of the wave; the non-principal one is the oblique, that is lateral, motion of the principal.
Colliding currents leap up and scour the bed
All running waters that meet one another from whatever direction leap upward and acquire weight, striking and hollowing the bottom that supports them. Of waters striking the bottom from different directions, the greater percussion comes from the one falling by the more direct line.
The angle of contingency divisible to infinity
The angles of contingency are divisible to infinity, and one same point is the common terminus of all, as seen in straight lines intersected like a star. The angle is a space interposed between two lines converging to one point, which point is indivisible and the common terminus of infinite angles.
Floods and ebbs of rivers entering the sea
Water moving in one same direction is of lesser depth where its course is swifter and greater depth where slower, at equal width and uniform motion. Swifter water lifts more and deposits where it slows; water in circular motion is slower the farther it is from the centre and faster the nearer.
