Pump-driving wheel trains and a self-turning weighted device
Figures 1-3: geared pump drives and a paddle wheel, plus an overbalancing weight instrument
Three numbered mechanisms fill the sheet: two toothed wheels turning a third wheel loaded with fourteen rim weights (a flywheel) whose crank works a pair of pumps (Fig. 1); three further wheels driving two pumps (Fig. 2); and a partly toothed wheel sweeping the water's surface with wide rectangular boards (Fig. 3). At the left a small rotating instrument is captioned with the letters a, b, c, the note stating that a is the weight that presses, an overbalancing perpetual-motion idea. Faint mirror-script and show-through appear at the right margin beyond the transcribed captions.

Figure 1: geared drive with a 14-weight flywheel working paired pumps
Two toothed wheels turn a third wheel fitted with fourteen weights set around its rim to act as a flywheel. A crank on this wheel guides the alternating (reciprocating) motion of a pair of pumps that raise water.
Figure 3: partly toothed wheel sweeping the water surface with boards
A wheel toothed only over part of its circumference carries wide rectangular boards that beat or drive the surface of the water. It is one of Leonardo's studies of moving water by mechanical means.
Overbalancing weight instrument (a, b, c)
A small rotating instrument at the left is lettered a, b, c. The note states that a is the weight that presses, marking an attempt at a self-turning device kept in motion by an unbalanced weight.
