The upper drawing shows a round beam wound with two cords so that, as it turns, one weight rises while the other descends, a simple differential windlass. Round beam wound with two cords
A round horizontal beam has two cords wound about it, arranged so that turning the beam raises one hanging weight while lowering the other. The device works as a differential winding drum for lifting loads.
Cord-and-pulley weight system marked 8 4 8
A cord passes over a pulley to carry weights whose values are noted as 8 4 8. The arrangement studies how the loads distribute across the cord and pulley in equilibrium.
