How the width of the outlet and the head of water govern the rate and reach of flow
A tall vessel m is fed through a bent pipe from a reservoir a, drawn at the top of the sheet. The note reasons that a pours 4 boccali an hour while m, whose outlet is a quarter narrower, pours only 3, yet once m fills up the increased weight of water above its outlet raises its flow to 4 boccali an hour as well.
