A rope-and-lever linkage that raises a foot
Lowering the cord n a lifts the foot d by the height h e; when the cord reaches f, d descends again
A faint metalpoint sketch in the middle of the page shows an articulated linkage combining a jointed arm, a pulley and a wheel, its parts lettered n, m, g, b, a, h, d, f and e. The accompanying note explains the motion: as the cord n a descends to n e, the foot d rises by the height h e, and when the cord reaches f the foot d is lowered again. The mechanism is drawn over a fainter sketch of trestle supports carried across from the facing leaf, which the transcription does not cover.

Cord motion raises and lowers the foot d
When the cord n a has descended to n e, the foot d will have risen by the height of h e; and when the cord e has reached f, the foot d will be lowered again. The device thus converts the travel of a cord over the wheel into the rise and fall of a lever-foot.
Lettered linkage of arm, pulley and wheel
The central figure is a jointed arm at the left connected through a pulley at the top to a large wheel at the right, the parts marked with the letters n, m, g, b, a, h, d, f and e. The drawing is executed lightly in metalpoint.
