Clock counterweight and transverse motion from one wheel
A weight unwinds 16 braccia of cord from a barrel; a single wheel yields back-and-forth motion.
The sheet joins two machine studies. At the upper left a counterweight hangs from a cord over a pulley and, in one arm of its travel, unwinds sixteen braccia of cord from a winding barrel (subbio); the tall bell-topped case beside it is labelled a clock (orilogio). Below, a large toothed wheel drives a linkage of rods that produces a transverse (back-and-forth) motion drawn from a single wheel that always turns in one direction only.

Counterweight and winding barrel (subbio)
A counterweight hangs from a cord passing over a pulley at the upper left. In a single arm of its travel it unwinds sixteen braccia of cord from the barrel (subbio) that drives the mechanism.
Clock housing (orilogio)
The tall bell-topped case at the centre is labelled a clock (orilogio). A small drum-and-gear assembly stands against its left side, drawn against the ruled frame of the case.
Transverse motion that goes and returns
The large studded wheel below drives a train of rods reaching to the right. This produces a transverse motion that goes and returns, obtained from a single wheel that always turns in one direction only.
