Winch of the Sea and of Ships (Argano di mare)
Ship's winch with dimensions a-b, b-c, n-m and a note on hauling up an incline
Folio 125v presents a winch or capstan for use at sea and aboard ships (argano di mare e da navili), drawn in red chalk. The mechanism is lettered n, m, a, c, b and dimensioned in braccia: a-b is 2/3 of a braccio, b-c is 2 and a half braccia, and n-m one braccio, with a further mark reading 'braccia 2'. A brief note observes that on a steep slope the hauling amounts to being drawn downward. Much of the red-chalk writing on the sheet is faded and only partly transcribed, so further untranscribed text is present.
