The central drawing is a 'paternoster' chain-pump raised by a stepped tread-wheel, a man's weight in the larger wheel serving as prime mover, with three enlarged details of its construction. The note specifies balls of sponge or tow bound with annealed iron wire, and a cord of iron or annealed copper wire as thick as a bowstring. At the top left is the armature for a festival crossing-tower (tiburio). At the lower right a foot-operated tube (a-d) twists to spurt water over the hands.

Paternoster chain-pump driven by a stepped tread-wheel
A chain of balls runs on a wire cord over a large stepped wheel that a man drives by his own weight, with enlarged details of the parts. The balls are to be of sponge or tow bound on the outside with annealed iron wire, and the cord of iron or annealed copper wire as thick as a bowstring.
Foot-operated hand-washing water jet (a-d)
A small device at the lower right throws water on command: setting the foot on a raises b, which twists the pipe c and makes water spurt out at d, to give water to the hands.
