The sheet gathers three unrelated studies in red chalk. At lower right a seated figure works a dynamometer whose hanging loads are noted as weights of 200, 100 and 200. A short river study keys four points along a stretch of stream (a, b, c, d) to the behaviour of its bed, from sluggish and muddy to swift and clean. At upper right is a decorative interlace knot; the caption calls it simply a decorative design.
