Water on a heated vessel turns to air mixed with fire
Water in contact with the bottom of a fired vessel at once converts into air mixed with fire. Because the hottest part of the air rises most, the exhalation penetrates the low region of the air touching it and is carried up with the element of fire as it returns to its sphere.
Three ways water rises from a riverbed
Water rises from the bottom of a river in three ways: with a slow birth, thrust up by a bellows, or thrust up by fire that heats it from below and makes it vaporize with continual birth. A related note asks whether little air or much air resists more under one same depth of water.
The denser edges of extinguished-candle smoke
The smoke of an extinguished candle has its edges denser than its middle, refracting inward as it flees the cold air that impedes its dilation. Because smoke can rarefy and condense it thickens at its ends, unlike water, which, unable to rarefy or condense of itself, throws back a wave that moves against the oncoming water.
The point defined, and line, surface and body from motion
The point is said to have no part and so is indivisible, being the common boundary between nothing and the front of the line. From the moving point comes the line, from the transverse motion of the line the surface, and from motion the body; where nothing ends the thing is born, and where the thing fails nothing is born.
