No element has weight or lightness in itself; gravity and levity arise from the motion of an element within itself, in its rarefaction and condensation, as seen when moist air generates clouds. Each is born from its opposite in the same instant, gaining power the more it has of life and motion, and the two destroy one another in common vengeance.
A sphere of water kindling fire by the sun's rays
If water remained without the earth around the centre of the world it would take a perfect sphericity, and, being penetrated by the solar rays, would kindle fire in things apt to burn placed on the opposite side of the air. The passage adds that the solar rays contract as they converge and warm the more the closer they draw to the point of their meeting.
The indivisible point and the line it describes when moved
The point has no middle and its bounds are nothingness, so it is indivisible and part of nothing; all points joined together are equal to one, and one to all. The adversary argues that if the point exists it can move or not move, and if moved it describes the line.
Friction overcoming weight halts motion
The note asks that the paper be shown not to move at the same obliquity where the axis moves. When the power of the friction overcomes the power of the weight, the body will have no motion.
