Mechanism for the motions of a small boat
A wheel-and-worm-screw drive shown above two views of a boat hull.
Headed by the note 'Motions of the little boat', the sheet works out a mechanical drive for a small craft. A large horizontal disc or paddle-wheel sits at the top, geared to a worm-screw and cranked frame beneath it, and the same wheel is repeated lower down over two studies of a rounded hull, one in profile and one seen from above or below. The drawing is a study of how to propel a boat by a turning wheel.

Wheel-and-screw drive for a boat
A broad disc or paddle-wheel is mounted horizontally over a worm-screw geared to an upright, cranked frame. Below, the same wheel reappears above two studies of a rounded boat hull, drawn in profile and in plan, so that the turning wheel would drive the craft through the water.
