Several water-raising mechanisms share the sheet. At upper left a system of spoon-shaped rods lettered a m and M explains how, when the box at corner M reaches the height of a, water runs to m and unloads. Figure 28 shows a cylinder raised by sliding up oblique beams, and figure 29 a funnel-like array of four screws hooked at the bottom and driven by one central lever a b, with a gearing note. The prose is in Leonardo's mirror hand.

System of spoon-shaped rods (a m, M)
The upper-left device is a system of spoon-shaped rods. When the little box at corner M rises to the height of a, the water runs along to m, where it discharges its load and lets m settle onto the water.
Cylinder raised on oblique beams (fig. 28)
Figure 28 is captioned a cylinder raised by sliding up oblique beams. The drum-like body is shown mounted on slanting rails so it can be run upward along them.
Four screws driven by a central lever (fig. 29)
Figure 29 gears four screws to one lever a b. The four lower pinions have 6 staves and the driving wheel 120 teeth, so one turn of the lever gives each screw 20 turns, and every turn delivers one brenta of water.
