The leaf is filled with several columns of chapter headings for a projected treatise Leonardo entitles 'Accidents of the motions of the waters.' The topics range across sea and river waves, currents and cataracts, whirlpools (retrosi) of every kind, the percussion and falls of water, and the wearing away of mountains and banks; a recurring maxim holds that the weight of moving water lies in the line of its motion. Among the entries are speculations that the reflections of water prove water to lie within and around the moon, and even 'the music of the waters.' A tiny marginal sketch is labelled as the weir (pescaia) of Ognissanti.

Whirlpools (retrosi) of sea and river, catalogued by kind
A long roster classifies whirlpools by every property: surface whirlpools, those that rise from the bed to the surface and those that sink from surface to bed, whirlpools broad above and narrow below or the reverse, straight or oblique, huge or brief, those shaped like reeds or screws, and those hollow and filled with air. The list treats them as a systematic natural taxonomy.
Where a river's impetus is strongest and where it slackens
Headings ask in what part of a water's impetus the greatest power is found and in what part the greatest weakness, why a single current keeps changing the river-bed, and why straight rivers become winding. Others treat the beds that draw water toward themselves or repel it into new sites, and the materials that currents deposit or carry off.
The weight of water lies in the line of its motion
The right-hand column closes with a mechanical proposition: 'The weight of the water is in the line of its motion.' It sits among notes on where turbulence is generated, where it is maintained over a long space and where it settles, treating moving water as a body governed by force.
Reflections of water that argue for water within the moon
One heading concerns 'the perspective of the mirrorings of waters, by the principles of which one proves water to be around and within the moon,' and a separate entry treats 'the water that is in the moon.' Leonardo folds the optics of reflection into an argument about the lunar body.
